New Jersey Raas Garba Sells Out for Third Straight Year

A crowded indoor Garba event

For the third year running, the tri-state area's biggest Garba weekend has sold out — this time faster than ever, and weeks earlier than organizers expected.

New Jersey Raas Garba, held at the Raritan Expo Center in Edison, cleared its 5,000-capacity floor within days of tickets going live, driven in part by the announcement of vocalist Falguni Rawal's first appearance in the state.

Beware the resale market

With official tickets gone, organizers are urging dancers to avoid third-party resale accounts, several of which have been flagged for listings at three to four times face value.

"There is an official returns waitlist," an organizer said. "That is the only safe way to get in now. Please don't get scammed."

A diaspora fixture

The event's rapid sell-out underlines how central Navratri has become to diaspora life in the northeast — a once-a-year gathering that functions as much as a community reunion as a concert.
