The Nine Colors of Navratri, Explained

Look closely at a Navratri crowd and you may notice it changes color each night. That's not coincidence — it's tradition.

A color a night

Many communities assign a specific color to each of the nine nights, dressing to match. It's a small ritual that turns a crowd into a congregation — thousands of people, on the same night, wearing the same shade of devotion.

Nine forms

The colors map loosely to the nine forms of the goddess honored across the festival, from the ascetic to the fierce to the serene.
