Garba Etiquette 101: The Unwritten Rules of the Circle

The circle looks intimidating from the outside and is more forgiving than you fear from the inside. A few rules keep it flowing.

The basics

  • Move counter-clockwise with the circle, never against it.
  • Keep the ring intact; don't cut across the center during raas.
  • Match the tempo — early evening is slow and welcoming.
  • Give people room, especially on the fast turns.

Above all

Smile. Nobody is grading your footwork; they're glad you're there. For a fuller primer, read Rameelo's Garba Etiquette 101 and browse a beginner-friendly night on Rameelo.
